That statement holds deep meaning. I have come to the realization that I have assisted others at the expense of my own mental, physical, and financial well-being. By lacking boundaries, I have sacrificed my own needs to aid others. I have neglected to prioritize myself in terms of time, finances, intellectual property, and physical health. People see me as someone who is always willing to help, but in doing so, I have suffered mentally, physically and financially. It is significant to acknowledge that I have taken on responsibilities, such as being the matriarch for my family, that have caused me distress, disappointment and at times regret. Failing to protect myself in these aspects has been a hard lesson to learn. Self-discovery is not always a smooth process and can be a difficult journey.
Should I have been more selfish with my mental, physical, and financial well-being? Absolutely! It's like they say, you can't pour from an empty cup, unless you're a teapot, then you're just doing your job. Self-care isn't selfish, it's self-preservation. Although my upbringing may have had its shortcomings, I can still handle all these challenges like an adult that whats to strive for improvement and I better life.
Lessons Learned from Breaking Free:
Self Discovery!
Talk about a June bug hitting you in the face well it literally did as I was talking to myself about writing this blog. Life is challenging and very stressful at times, but God gives me the wake up call as needed.
I am learning that I am breaking free from emotional dependency by focusing on gratitude in my day and I am learning that anything is possible as long as I keep my eyes and ears open to the heavens above.
Surviving the Chaos and Breaking Free:
The reality looks like this at times:
Reflect on what's bugging you, like a detective trying to solve the mystery of your own sanity.
Strive to be as resilient as a skilled artisan molding a masterpiece from the raw material of self-compassion.
Becoming less stressed is a gradual process, like making small changes remember Rome wasn't built in a day.
**Here are a few strategies that I use to help me break free from emotional dependency in efforts to empower better mental support:**
1. Set clear goals: Define what you want to achieve and create a plan to reach those goals. Goals are used as a tool to break free from our old habits. ie: I use a 24-48 hour rule before I make a financial decision over $500.
2. Prioritize tasks: Focus on high-priority tasks first to ensure important things get done. ie: Every morning, my top priority is to wake up at a specific time and take my 8-year-old standard poodle for his morning walk before heading to work by 9am.
3. Time management: Use tools like calendars or apps to schedule tasks and manage your time effectively.
4. Break tasks into smaller steps: This can make tasks more manageable and help you stay motivated. ie: I continue to rely on paper and pen for writing notes to assist me in monitoring my progress. Once accomplished treat yourself!
5. Stay organized: Keep your workspace tidy and create systems to stay on top of your responsibilities. ie: Every day, I rely on multiple lists including my phone calendar, email list, and pen and paper.
